Question:

Whats the difference between carry in and ride in wheel service for new motorcycle tires?

I am purchasing new motorcycle tires online and having the shipped to a shop for instillation. However the price for instillation is significantly cheaper for carry in versus ride in. Does carry in refer to the new wheels I purchased or the old wheels?

Answer:

There are a lot of semantic and philosophical answers but the simplest way I can put it that makes sense, a rider or not (me being one and we ride) is to bring it to the physical state. A bike you are on, a car you are in. If you rode a car you'd be on the roof, even in a convertible you are still surrounded. On a motorcycle there is what's underneath and nothing else. Not to mention on one the power is under the other it's in front. Same difference as riding a horse or driving a coach.
Significantly more work if you ride in. Riding the bike in they have to take the old rims and tires off of the bike, then take the old tires off the rims, then put the new tires on the rims and put them back on the bike. If you were to walk in with just the empty rims, they'd just put the new tires on and off you'd go.
It means you take the wheel off and bring it in. or take the whole bike in.It doesn't matter if the wheels are old or new. If you want your new tires to be shipped to that shop or to your house and then you bring in the new tires when you bring in the wheel. At my shop it's a difference of $10. $10 if you bring the wheel and tire in and $20 to bring the whole bike. I just let them do it all because $10 more for me not to have do it is worth it.
