Question:

whats the meaning for hoist the colors song?

hi i need help please

Answer:

But the song itself is actually the story of how Calipso is imprisioned. The first verse is: The king and his men stole the queen from her bed and bound her in her Bones. The seas be ours and by the powers where we will well roam. The King and his men being the Pirate King and Lords of the first Bretherin Court which Barbossa tells us is who first imprisioned Calipso (the queen in the song) in her body (bound in her bones). Which means they can roam the sea as they like since Calipso can't send maelstroms after them if she's imprisioned in human form. So, basically this song (being at the beginning of the film as it is), is setting the background for the storyline.
Hoist The Colors
Well, to 'hoise the colours' was to raise the flag, and when a ship saw a pirate flag raise, all hell broke loose. The song itself is a cocksure song regarding them being pirates and being bad, never shall we die and all. On the ships, crew would sing songs to keep moral high and get work done that much faster. Much like now a days and mp3 players and radios. When they would sing a song like this, it would make everyone's pride go up, their moral go up, and work would be done.
Let s forget the yo ho part that s fairly simple. The King and his men... Is the story of Calipso being imprisoned into a lesser form. Some men have died... Sounds more like its describing Davy Jone s job, some are dead others are alive could refer to those who have perished and survived an attack from the Flying Dutchmen, other sail on the sea could be those who choose to serve Davy, with the key to the cage , could be multiple things, it could be that Davy holds the keys to his crews fate, or that he holds the key to the locker and the devil to pay refers to the crew, they have a debt to pay to Davy, the devil, we lay to Fiddlers Green, is the crew waiting to pass on. The bell has been raised... Being the call to the court, the song is the bell raised from the depths to be sung, as it hasn t been sung in years, something about a call and head the squall or whatever would probably be saying to the court to brace the storm and sail threw it for they must turn their sail towards home home being Shipwreck Cove.
