Question:

whats wrong with my motorcycle brakes?

all of a sudden my front brake is really loud and is scratching the really smooth part that is pushed on by the pads, i dont know what its called. just time to get new brakes? they still slow me down.

Answer:

I can't believe that people still use their front brakes. I know that all of your stopping power comes from the front, I just don't use the front brake unless I am burning a few hundred miles off my back tire. Then again, I learned to ride on a 68 Trumpet and the front brake on it worked just like drum brakes on bikes are supposed to...it didn't
New pads (organic pads if you can still use that rotor) and have mechanic mic the rotor, sounds like you might need that replaced too. Outside chance it could be brake dust or debris, How much pad is left? If you visually can't see much, replace immidately.
could be a lot of things, including dust or a small stone or pebble imbedded in the brake pad. All brake pads have wear lines in them. if the brakes are worn past the wear line then yes it is time to get new ones, if not, then you can find what is causing the noise, remove it, put some brake quiet on the caliper parts and ride on.
It's past time for new brakes. What's happening is your pads are worn completely down to the metal base and it is scrubbing the rotor (the really smooth round part. It won't stay smooth, as once metal meets metal, the pad metal will cut grooves in the rotor, eventually ruining it, and it won't take long; it's also dangerous- your brakes can fail at any time. Get it fixed post haste!
YOUR PADS ARE WORN OUT!!!! the brake pads are most likely so far worn down, the friction material is GONE and nothing left but the metal backing plate. If this IS the problem...you WILL need a new ROTOR also..this is the big smooth shiny thing!!! DO NOT RIDE YOUR BIKE UNTIL YOU GET THIS CHECKED OUT!!!!
