Question:

When are fuel cell cars coming out?

I heard that car companies are making cars that run on water and the hydrogen inside of it when will this be ready? How is it currently developing?

Answer:

fuel cells do not run on water of any kind. Fuel cells use hydrogen gas only. Today Honda has one you can lease, it is not for sale because you could not afford one. They lease for $600/month, more than twice the cost of a similar car. The hydrogen is made from natural gas. The fuel cost for operating a hydrogen car is about the same as a gasoline engine car. Proponets point out that the fuel cell only emits water from its exhaust pipe. This is true, BUT, here is the BIG BUT, making the H2 cause the pollution of burning the methane to exhaust pollutants either at a H2 plant, or in the case of the Honda, at your house! Fuel cells are expensive, very expensive
Honda proposes to sell some of them next year (2009) that create their own hydrogen from a CNG supply (natural gas). Nobody is at all close to putting a fuel cell car on the road that converts water to hydrogen on the road. That may never come. It would require some source of energy to split the water into hydrogen and oxygen,
The Honda CRV should be coming out sometime next year. There will be others that will come out in the next couple years. We will need to have some major installation of hydrogen gas stations, otherwise they are going to fail.
one may know that avery high voltage is discharged to earth through lightning.if it is possible to use this voltage to electrolyze water into hydrogen and oxygen which can be used in fuel cells to power automobiles and others in future, whose waste will be pure waterisn't it a better idea!!!
