Question:

When can baby have a regular bed?

I have a 14 month old baby and she is everywhere, climbing on tables, beds, everything! I've caught her a several times now almost climbing out of her crib, I think its dangerous and want to move her to a bed as soon as possible. Her crib is convertible and can turn into a bed but what is the normal age for a child to move on to a bed?

Answer:

There is no 'normal' age. Cribs are for parent convenience, not the child's. If you don't have time to convert the crib right now, just put the mattress on the floor and let her sleep there.
When she starts climbing out of her crib is a good time, in my opinion. My daughter was 2 1/2 when that happened. She started climbing as soon as she could walk, which was at 13 months. My mom called her monkey for that reason.

If she is almost climbing out, and the bed can turn into a toddler bed, I would change it. You don't want her to jump out and hurt herself. I've heard the general age is about 2 yrs, but if she is developing quicker than others her age, or you feel she isn't safe get her into the toddler bed.
I guess it just depends on the parents, but I have 4 children and when they were about 2 years old I moved them to a toddler bed so they wouldn't climb and hurt themselves.
