Question:

When did the following become common in homes?

Washing MachinesVacuum CleanersDishwashersDryersElectric IronsHand held hair dryers

Answer:

TV in my home came when I was age 5. The washing machine had rollers on the top to wring out the water. My parents NEVER owned a dishwasher. My parents hung the clothes on the line; never owned a dryer. My mother used the hair dryer with the bag and hose. .
Individually, the time line could spread out over 60 or 70 years. As a whole, there are still items on your list that are not common in all homes. For instance, when I was married my wife did the dishwashing by hand and now I still do it the same way. I have no need for a hair dryer but if I did, what other type would I be likely to use in my home other than a hand held?
I know Maytag was very popular in the 1920s for washing machines. There was still a lot of hand washing with ringers around, but Maytags were becoming more affordable. I'm completely serious here when I say they were run by a gasoline engine. It was mounted under the machine and started with a kick lever. It had to be vented to the outside with flexible exhaust hose. Vacuums have been around since about 1890, but weren't very effective until electricity made them more efficient. Dishwashers became popular in the 1960s, but were so loud you should leave the house for a while, LOL. Hair dryers really took off in a very short time starting in 1972.
Washing machines, irons, and irons, I would say probably in the 1910s or 1920s, but dishwashers, dryers and hair dryers in the 1960s. I was 4 y/o when we got our first TV (1952) and was out of college and working when I got my first color TV (1973).
Idon't know when they came about but, washing machine... my mom washed our clothes in an old wringer washer .No spin cycle.Vacuum ...old canister style, where you would empty the bag and use it over.Dishwasher... your own two hands... Dryers...clothes lines, or in the winter a wooden drying rack. Electric Iron, yes,but....mom sprinkled clothes down with water then ironed, no steam irons then.Hand held hair dryers....I was held upside down over a floor heating vent then a cap was placed over your head that had a warm air hose attached to it. Salones had big hood hair dryers.
