Question:

Where are smoke detectors required under current california code?

This is not a new house. Thanks

Answer:

A garden hose is a good example for electricity. The hose represents a conductor. The water flowing through the hose is the amount of current. The friction caused by the water flowing through the hose is resistence. The force that pushes the water through the hose is voltage. So in a real world application in order to increase current flow you will need to lower resistence. Bigger conductors will allow more current flow at lower voltages because there is less restriction and the voltage is not forcing too many electrons through the conductor at one time. This reduces resistance. You can change voltage levels by the type of power supply, transformers, adding or removing resistors, and many other ways. Current can be changed by voltage amount, resistence ammount, and many other variations. Be careful with what you do. High current through an improperly sized conductor will cause too much friction (resistence) ((the opposition to current flow)) and could possibly burn up. Be safe and have fun!
