Even if there was something for the magnet to stick to a barrel full of water is going to weigh allotIt would take allot of steel for a magnet to get a good hold of itI think the best bet is to go swimming with a ropeWe cleaned some old 50 gallon drums out of a pond about 12 foot deepWe had a magnet rated at 120lbs of pullIt got the ones on top but the sunk in the mud ones were stuckIf we could get the barrels to start coming up and went slow it was okIt worked much better when the magnet stuck to the top of the barrel where it was flatHope that helps.
If the store you deal with does not have the extended displays of this company, look around or contact the company and see if they can aim you at a place that does I worked in a Big hardware store for 9 years and the smallest plated tubing I encountered was 1/2 in lamp parts and some plumbing stuff.
