Dogs have very sensitive hearing, and can hear frequencies above what we can hear. Next time you hear the alarm, imagine that the tone you hear is 2 or 3 octave higher, and that's what your dog hears. It probably hurts his/her ears a bit, but generally their cry is more of a What the heck is that? Make it stop!
Some dogs do, because they have better hearing than other dogs. They can detect some pitch in the noise that annoys them. My dog doesn't do that.
Mine, don't bark, howl or whine when a the firm alarm goes off sleep through any kind of music I put on. I never tip toed around them as puppies, so they can sleep through anything.
Call the fire department explain the situation. I'm sure he can say hes doing randome inspection or something. He can then legally notify the landlord to do it right without him knowing it was you.
