In Ganache Mine District, there is a mine to the left of Ramsey's Blacksmith, take food or energy medicine while down there so you don't pass out looking for the ores. If you break the rocks you can see different types of metal ores. Only take the ones that SPARKLE! (one's that don't sparkle ar junk metal) I suggest going deep into the mine, here are better chances of getting metals there. (when on floor 19, get all the mushrooms and toadstools! there's a LOT!) Then take them to Mira the jeweler in Ramsey's Blacksmith and choose refine the ores will turn into metals. good luck :]
The two mines in the game are Gelato Mine and Ganache Mine. At this point in the game, you won't have Gelato yet, but there will be a mine in Mt. Gelato (accessed via Ben's Rainbow). For now, use Ganache Mine (in Ganache Mine District, obviously). You can find iron ore (as well as other kinds of ores - like copper, silver, and gold) in the ROCKS in the mines. (.as opposed to the colored crystal things, where you instead find Wonderfuls that refine into gems.) To refine an iron ore into Iron (they need to have sparkles on their icons in their Rucksack, or else they'll turn out to be Junk Ore), get them appraised by Mira. Meet her in the Graveyard by the Church in Maple Lake District, and then you can find her at the right-hand counter in the Blacksmith's place. You can then use that Iron metal - plus a small fee - to upgrade your tools at the Blacksmith's shop, at the opposite (left) counter. But. the rock blocking Brownie Ranch District requires a Hammer upgraded to Level 3 in SKILL level, not material level. Skill level upgrades can't be purchased or physically built; you level up your skill by using the tool often and gaining experience with it. Anyway, though, there's no need to actually break the boulder. If you just wait it out until the Animal Festival (Spring 28), the path will be automatically cleared.
