Question:

Which is better blown in insulation or rolled up bat insulation?

Im wanting to insulate the interior walls of my garageThe sheet rock is not up yet and Im wanting to know the best wayAnd also the best stuff, exowens corning, john mansfield.

Answer:

I am not sure you could ever get it all outA lesson learned if oyu want to try washing it out, do it in a utility tub with gloves on or call a dry cleaner and see what they say.
If you really, really wanted to save the blankets you could try and launder them in the double or triple capacity machine's at the laundry matThere they will be able to spin freely and maybe get all the fiberglass pieces outHowever, I would seriously reconsider keeping the blankets since fiberglass could become inhaled and very dangerousMaybe it's better to get a couple new onesGood luck +
If your walls are open then hands down your best bet is fiberglass battingYou can do it yourself and it is more stable then the blown in typeThe difference between manufacturers is minor as long as the r value is the sameI would choose a foil vapor barrierGood luck and don't forget to wear a dust mask.
Get them dry cleaned or better still, throw them away.
