Answer:

Metal Gear for NES or MSX Metal Gear 2 for MSX Metal Gear Snake's Revenge (not really part of the series) for NES Metal Gear Solid (AKA MGS Ghost Babil) for gameboy color Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater for PS2 Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes (remake of MGS) for NGC Metal Gear Solid Integral (MGS with extras, Japanese only) for PS1 Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance (MGS2SoL with extras) for PS2 or XBOX Metal Gear Solid 3 Sustistinance (MGS3SE with extras) for PS2 Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots (not yet released) for PS3 Metal Gear Ac!d for PSP Metal Gear Ac!d 2 for PSP Metal Gear Manga (forget name, not really a game) for PSP Metal Gear Portable Ops for PSP
Don't get acid, repeat DON'T get acid. It's a frickin MGS card game, you get 6 cards out of a deck and use them to fight enemies on the board who also use cards, biggest waste of money EVER
search okorder
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops for PSP, I highly recommend it, I have it Metal Gear Solid: Acid, I don't recommend it, it's really boring
I think Metal Gear Solid 1 had the better narrative, but because of better graphics and play controls, my vote goes for MGS2. It was very similar to 1 by design and like 1 had us meet a lot of colorful characters and a deep involved plot with twists. I think MGS3 was weakened by all the micromanaging of feeding and had less interesting characters, and4 had too long cutscenes a lot of boss battles against people I didn't feel I knew in any sense. A lot could have been compacted in MGS4 to make it better in my opinion, and the saved time could have been used elsewhere. So yeah, Metal Gear Solid 2 is my choice.
