Question:

Why are my smoke detectors going off for no reason?

I have 4 Carbon/smoke detectors in my house and 4 regular smoke detectors in my house. All 8 are interconnected through the electrical system, but one of them sets everything off every so often. I know that we have an older gas furnace in our basement and I was wondering if something from that could be what sets it off? are there any experts who know what type of vapors the furnace can give off? Thanks

Answer:

No, you are not going to be fired. Explain to the manager that you do not drive, and as much as you would like to you can't help out in this.
Dont ever go to circuit city or best buy!!! I've seen the work they have done before and it gives installers a bad name. I would look around in your area for a shop, phonebooks and ads. As for a system I strongly reccommend the APS997, APS997a. I have one on my vehicle and I love it. It comes with a 2-way pager and lets you know if the car is locked or unlocked or if the alarm is going off. Whatever you decide stay away from DEI products. They only have a year warranty and don't back up their products. Prestige and code alarm come with a lifetime warranty parts and labor. If you wanted to you could also add sensors like a motion sensor or a glass break sensor, but the alarm should be sufficient.
the problem is with one of the door lock actuators that is failing. eventually it will stop making the noise and not work at all. the only remedy is to isolate the noise (find out what door its coming from) and replacing the actuator. you can isolate it by putting your ear next to the door panel for each of the doors and listening to see where the noise is loudest as the locks are operated. if you have a keyless remote its easy; otherwise you may have to have someone work the locks for you. for a dealer to do it you'll be looking at about $200 parts and labor. hope that helps
