Question:

Why aren't roads made of plastic?

Roads made of plastic will be smoother. It will be an extremely/super/ultra quiet and smooth ride on a plastic road. Plastic is more flexible too, so it won't crack under heat and some movement too. Plus, plastic is cheap too. Plastic is strong too. So, why aren't roads made of plastic.

Answer:

no traction! the expansion and retraction rates are far to great! in the event of a fire you could not put it out, brittle in the cold, to soft and easy to rip up or damage, repairablility is low and costly
there are many things the road should be made out of other than pavement.. The simple answer to why the roads are not made out of something better/longer lasting is because it is too expensive
well one imagine driving in the rain on a plastic road try it cover about 10 feet in sheet plastic or the plastic they use to keep rain off of lumber. also what about snow you wouldn't be able to drive at all it would be so slick you would never be able to turn or stop quick enough at least on blacktop you have a chance.
Plastic under the heat of the sun, would deform under the weight of thousands of vehicles traveling over it. Plastic would be very brittle and crack in cold weather. Zero traction in rain, snow. Plastic is made of petroleum just like tarmac. Tarmac is cheaper than plastic, when you consider a road bed is anywhere from 4-8 thick. Imagine 4-8 thick of plastic covering a 4 lane wide highway (each lane being 8-10 feet wide, plus an extra 15 feet or so for shoulders) for 200 miles...That would drive up the cost of EVERYTHING using plastic, plus it would be so ungodly expensive, it wouldn't be worth it. Repairs would be difficult and couldn't be done in winter.
You wouldn't be able to get god enough traction, it would be too easily damaged by people that spin thier tires and it would be too expensive.
