Why aren't lightning rods installed in houses anymore?

Lightning rods used to be installed on all houses, with huge grounding pipes ran into the ground, and high rods across the entire roof. That practice has stopped. Why?

Also, the o ring in the female receptor may be worn. Try putting a little plumbers grease on it with a Q tip. If that doesn't do it you can try to replace the O ring. You can remove the old one with a curved dental pick, and try pushing the new one in with the male end connector.
