Make absolutely sure it is bad, then advise the owner. If he doesn't replace it you should and then when you pay the rent take what it cost you off and give him the receipt for the new alarm with the difference in rent. Give him the old alarm not only so it can see that it is faulty, but as it is his.
a pipe cutter , looks like a C clamp has a cutting wheel on it
I use i mini-grinder with diamond blades. Gives a clean cut and gets into fairly tight spaces. Just make sure to wear gloves and a dust mask.
