Question:

Why do people call it metal?

Now days there so many up and coming bands that aren't even metal and yet they are called metal.I'm sorry but metal is Dimmu Borgir,Satrycon,Decide,Gorgoroth,Impaled Nazarene,Behemoth not all Green day and Bullet fro my valentine.

Answer:

Depends on the metal. Aqua regia will dissolve gold/silver etc. It;s a 3:1 mix of concentrated HCl and concentrated nitric acid... But that's not going to be much help if you are just after something lying around in the house rather than in a lab... Can't really help you with household items really, sorry!

Aqua regia or Royal water can dissolve metals. It is a mixture of conc.nitric acid and conc.hcl in the ratio of 1:3. Remember none of the above mentioned acids will dissolve the metals in the absence of other.
Acid Dissolving Metal
How quickly depends on concentration. Whether the metal reacts with the acid in the first place depends on what the metal is (and to a lesser extent what the acid is.) Metals down to, say, iron (and a bit below) in the Reactivity Series will react steadily with sulphuric or hydrochloric acid (nitric acid tends to behave differently because of its oxidising abilities) Copper will react with nitric acid, as will silver (but slowly). Gold and Platinum (as outlined above) need rather more drastic treatment.
