Question:

Why do some bands encase their drummers in plastic sheeting?

Have seen many bands perform with their drummers in plastic boxes. Especially rock bands.

Answer:

have you ever played electric gutiar next to a drummer on stage? its really really loud you can't hear yourself you can't think...the drummer can't do anything but keep playing so the reason why they do that is cause the drums are soooo loud especialy rock bands so i hope that helps :-)
cus they rock so hard the band is afraid that the power of the rock could unravel the principals of physics our universe is based on... wait, i know you read that and your like yeah, B/S djk15000... but heres some examples... any ZZ top video... the only rock containment device used are some flimsy fake beards, as such in every video a good girl turns slutty and some crappy car gets turned into a pimped out ready for luv shaggin wagon, if you dint believe me watch remember the 80s.... the damned yankees video where they run into the farmhouse because the cops are after them (presumably for rocking too hard in another location) and then the cops start shooting and ted nugent (aka THE NUGE!!!) steps out on the porch with his guitar, and the bullets cant hit him, because hes rocking so damned hard...its like super man, but with ROCK!!! and countless others... my point is this is a public safety issue and we should be glad that some bands have the courtisey and respect for scociety to shield us safe from thier awsome rock fury
The reason for this is because drums can be a very loud instrument. It can be distracting to the other musicians in the band and it is also a way of balancing the different sections of the band (even though a lot of it can be done with technology nowadays).
Drums are loud and the sound from the drums can carry out and be picked up by the vocal microphones. This creates an uncontrollable condition for the sound man so they surround the drummer with an acrylic see through barrier to alleviate the problem.
i don't know, but that seems weird...
