Question:

Why do tires have different designs on them?

i noticed that different tires had different patterns on them. some are all squiggly, others are different.why is this?

Answer:

Tread designs are made for different driving situations. Like tread for rain, snow or mud. Some tires are designed for high performance. They not only have different tread but also the rubber compound is different, harder for more mileage, softer for grip.
Depends on the purpose of the tire. Tires with a strong squiggly pattern, are usually snow or mud tires. Straighter tread are for highway use or around town, tires with a v pattern are like rain tires.
