Question:

Why does Aluminum, Gallium and Indium.?

Why does Aluminum, Gallium, and Indium form halides of the form M2X6, but Thallium does not? Please explain? Thank you.

Answer:

AlX3, GaX3 and IX3 can dimerize forming Al2X6, Ga2X6 and I2X6 Tl is a large atom in that it has F electrons so the potential to form a dimer is not thereTlX3 would be very unstable due to the size of Tlno dimer
