Question:

why does my cat lick plastic bags and all forms of plastic wraps?

He licks plastic bags from the supermarket, department stores, etc. He licks the plastic wrap that a four pack of tissues is in, the plastic wrap that toilet paper is in, all forms of plastic. what could he be doing it for and is there a danger?

Answer:

Some plastic bags contain certain essences of fish and other food byproducts (oils). The cat will smell it, and like to lick it because of this. Other bags are formulated differently. I had a cat that did this all the time, too. As long as he is not EATING it, which could cause a severe intestinal blockage requiring surgery, just keep discouraging him as best you can, but licking alone will not cause him harm. Me… kittyslave23… I know my place.
I don't know, mine does the same.

I read somewhere, and for the life of me can't find it now, but there is something in plastic bags that attracts cats. The danger is that plastic can not be digested, so it can cause blockage, among other health issues. If I can find the article, I will add it to this reply later. Hope this helps,
