Bed-wetting is a self-limited phenomenon that the child will eventually outgrow. Most children that wet the bed also tend to be deep sleepers. This means restricting fluids in the evening four hours before bedtime, urinating before bedtime, making sure the child is not holding his urine during the day and going every three hours even if he does not feel the need to go, getting rid of pull-ups (if he uses them), having the child change his own sheets and underwear, teaching the child to launder those wet sheets and underwear, and using a calendar to keep track of the dry days. There are modalities including the bed-wetting alarm system, DDAVP Nasal Spray and tablets for sleep overs only, Imipramine and Ditropan. All of these other means simply cover up the bed-wetting until the child outgrows it. The two best options for actually changing the behavior with the aggressive yet conservative approach and the bed-wetting alarm system.
