Question:

Why does my puppy ............?

attack and bark at the vacuum??? Its cute but at other times its annoying! I want her to get used to it, so I leave her inside when I vacuum. She is a German Shepherd Dog, if that has anything to do with it! She is a dominate female too. What can I do to get her to stop it? Thanks!!

Answer:

she doesn't understand what it is. she's probably scared of it, so she goes to her instincts. try pushing it toward her while it's turned off. or just set it somewhere and coax her to coming to it. let her sniff it and paw it or whatever she does. it'll teach her that it's not going to hurt her.
continue with the routine most dogs to have that reaction to anything loud clippers, blowdryers, vacuums either she'll get used to it or let her outside when you do it.
My dog is 5 and still doesn't like the vacuum. He doesn't bark or bite at it now but he still runs as fast as he can from it if it gets near him lol.
forget it, the vacuum comes out occasionally and not enough for a dog to get used to / remember dogs think like dogs not people and your pup barks under the influence of confusion, she doesn't know what this unit is or understand what the carpet ie or what dirt is either. YOU CANT STOP this behavior, put her downstairs during vacuuming. respect her dislike for the vacume my Shepperd circles my lawnmower and attacks the wheel lifting it up in the air, and will never like or understand the lawn mower and like the vacuum they make a confusing noise
Well, vacuum cleaners have always been a big problem with dogs. Seems not many dogs like them. Now I have seen some dogs who enjoy catching a ride on one. I have 9 dogs and for the most part, they just go out the doggie door or into their kennels when I vacuum. My Lab will just lay there. My 7 month old Pit decided she wanted to seek and destroy my vac. It was making things difficult. I don't like to use the 'kennel' to lock her up because that just prolongs addressing the problem so I chased her with it. Growled, barked and chased. She now has complete respect for my vacuum cleaner. She is not scared but will not approach it. She gives it room.
