why doesn't mica expand or contract upon wetting or drying?

Why doesn't mica expand when wetted? Also why do vermiculite and montmorillonite expand when they are wetted. Additionally why does montmorillonite expand twice as much or more than vermiculite when wetted?

Answer:

Yes it is ok. If they get too wet, just leave the lid off the top of the container for a while, so some of it can evaporate.
As long as you wipe the excessive water away and the water is not cold there should be no problem. It's more beneficial to the eggs if they're buried, otherwise they are unable to take the moisture from the substrate they're being incubated in.
