Question:

Why doesnt my car alarm work?

I had an amplifier put in. Right before they installed it I hit the alarm remote and tested it. It chirped and the truck release button on the remote worked. Now nothing. The remote lights up like it‘s working but it will not release the trunk or set the alarm. Any ideas??? I already checked the truck release button. There is an led under the dash with a button behind it. I tried pressing that. No luck. I know the alarm works because I was locked out and it went off when AAA opened the door. It‘s just the remote is not activating it and opening the doors or turning the led on.

Answer:

i dont think the alarms deter the jackers. however, a security system that wont let the car be started without a key is a pretty good deterent. maybe some day in the future they will design an alarm that automatically calls the police if the car is tampered with.

Maybe your remote quit working, either it is bad and needs replaced or it could have lost programming when the battery was disconnected during the amplifier install. Maybe the main power wire to the alarm system was not hooked up when the amp was installed, or maybe the fuse in the main power wire is blown. If there is power to the alarm, and the remote does not work, try to reprogram it. If you get into programming mode and the remote does not program, then it needs replaced.
