Question:

why doesnt my gerbil go in their wheel?

my gerbils dont go on their wheel i got the new cage on sunday and the plastic wheel came with it its not a wired wheel its just plastic and stuff could u plz help?

Answer:

it takes time for them to know what it is and how it works!!
I've had two gerbils, four hamsters and a mouse. All of them but the female gerbil ran in their wheels. Someone told me it had something to do with her longer tail, but since the male used the wheel, I have no clue
They are still new to the cage. They need more time to get comfortable with all its parts. A plastic wheel with work and feel different than a metal one, so it may seem a little unusual for them. Also, make sure it is large enough. It is very easy to buy a wheel that looks the right size, but actually is too small for them to run comfortably in. Please also make sure it is a solid plastic wheel, not one with holes and spaces in it. This is extremely dangerous as their limbs and tails can get caught in the spaces, causing serious injuries which are expensive to treat.
