Question:

Why doesnt my new windshield wiper work?

I‘ve purchased 3 new windshield wipers for the driver‘s side of my car thinking the first 2 were defective, and all 3 have not cleared the winshield properly. It makes a lot of noise when it is on and it skips over the windshield. The passenger side wiper works fine. I can‘t continue to buy new wipers because that is obviously not the problem. Anyone know what I am doing wrong? It is a lock tab clip type.

Answer:

get another compression ring. its about 12 cents
Be curious to know what kind of vehicle. I also have windshield wiper that makes a lot of noise and skips over the windshield. I've gotten some advise and its helped and I'll pass it on it on to you. They told me the(the advise) to bend the windshield wiper arm. It seemed to help some, it made it so I could use it again, but it wasn't like an oem wiper on a new truck. By the way the passenger side has always done just your yours. Try the bending and see what happens, good luck
Use two wrenches. Put one on the fitting and use the other on the nut. Hold the one on the fitting solid and apply pressure to the nut. The other solution is to get a new fitting to replace the old.
Here is your problem, your wiper arms are no longer applying the correct pressure against the window, like when it was new, you need to have the wiper arms replaced. If the motor makes noise, replace the motor.
A couple of things may be affecting your wiper performancethat are MOST LIKELY. -1- windshield is contaminated (ie grease, tree sap, road tar, ect) thouroughly clean the windshield, and clean wiper blades (rubber part) with rubbing alcohol. (many times this is the only thing wrong as your wipers collect dirt-much like a swiffer broom) -2- low tension on the wiper blade to the windshield, caused by worn tension arms (if your just changing the rubber blades) or a bent wiper rod or missing rod spring. Most likely a combination of these -2- factors. Bent rods must be replaced. Also check for a loose fastener (nut) connecting the rod to the drive shaft. Good luck! Obviously you know replacing the blades is NOT the problem.
