Question:

Why is my brake light on?

96 jeep cherokee sport, my brake light comes on randomly. the reservoir is full and the parking brake is not on. i just did a disc brake conversion on the rear and replaced the hose and hard lines at the same time. i bled both rear calipers and all seemed to be good, but the pedal still feels spongy and i have to depress it almost all the way to stop.i didnt get a good flare on one hard line and replaced it. by removing that one line, could it have let air into the other side? both hard lines go into a splitter that runs to the hose and up to the front.but im still baffled as to why the light will come on intermittently if the reservoir is full

Answer:

If it has ABS air in the system may well cause the symptom
If you changed you hoes didn't bleed the whole system the you still have air in the lines. That being the case if you have abs your light will come on
I assume you are referring to a dashboard brake warning light? not a tail light. very likely it has air in it. most braking systems are 'split' and have dual pipelines etc for safety etc. these are required to be bled in a specified order .( eg Girling ,Lockheed dual system etc) you will most likely have to bleed entire system. if light is coming on randomly? we may have some air in system being pushed back and forth in an air lock situation .
