Question:

Why is my car alarm going off at random? (07 Hyundai Elantra)?

My car alarm has gone off several times today, for seemingly no reason at all. I have a keyless remote, and have been able to shut it up with that.but it‘s rather odd for it to just go off this often (3 times today). I can‘t think of any reasons it‘d be happening - it‘s cold out today, very windy at times.? The car was unlocked and locked with the remote the first time it went off, then I manually unlocked and locked the car with the key the latter 2 times. Is this perhaps a keyless remote issue (low battery, or malfunction), some exterior influence affecting the car.or something wrong in the car?

Answer:

Sounds like malfunction. Since it is an '07 you should be under warranty (5 years 60k with Hyundai). The alarms only go off when a door is open, or trunk is opened so it won't go off with wind. Also check your gas door, I believe that is alarmed also; at least on my '09 Sonata.
Hyundai has a Field FIX for this problem on 07/08 Elantra. All they have to do is to replace the hood switch rubber bumper. Its like a rubber piece that pushes the switch down to close the circuit. This way the BCM understands that hood is closed and can activate the alarm. Unfortunately, this rubber piece is too short and sometimes it doesn't close the circuit. As a result it tells BCM that hood is open and the alarm goes off. The part, even if its not covered under warranty (which I doubt is not) it costs just under $2.
