Question:

Why is my vacuum so loud?

17th century chemist and physicist Rober Boyle discovered that sound won't travel through a vacuum. Then why is my vacuum cleaner so loud?

Answer:

really?? did u not think about this b4 u posted??......the only vacuum in ur vacuum cleaner is inside of it....the motor and the parts making the vacuum are not anywhere near the vacuum so noise travels freely.....
Wrong area. But anyway, don't confuse a vacuum with a vacuum cleaner. Between your ears in this case must be a vacuum or a black hole to post such a ridiculous question, and post it in the wrong area of questions.
True - sound does not travel in a vacuum. But you do not have a vacuum inside your machine. You have only a partial vacuum. It takes sophisticated lab machinery to make a perfect vacuum (or you can travel to outer space). However vacuum or not, most of the sound from a vacuum cleaner comes from the motor, through the external housing.
it's not so much due to the vacuum than at the other end, the fan has to keep making fresh vacuum and expelling the excess air. Add to that the noise of revolving carpet brushes and the sound of millions of dust mites biting the dust, and you got a lot of noise. And the term vacuum cleaner is a bit optimistic. Most only reduce the air pressure by a PSI or two at best, so they're more like 1/8 of a vacuum cleaners.
It's the vacuum between your ears that I'm concerned with.
