why is there 'quartz' in most watches?

i wondered what does the quartz stands for, adnd whats the purpose of putting 'quartz'? is quartz means the mineral/crystal, or something else?my wrist watch is written 'sapphire' instead of quartz. what does this means? is it because its special? btw its bonia

It probably doesn't contain gold. Quartz is a very common mineral and most quartz veins, whatever their colour don't contain gold. In certain places, quartz veining is associated with gold but it is the exception rather than the rule. To an extent, it depends WHERE you picked the piece of quartz from; if you were in some traditional gold mining country, there is a stronger likelihood that your quartz will contain gold.
