Question:

Why plastic bags are bad?

I'm really into conserving the environment, and I've decided I'm going to try and do something about plastic shopping bags. In my city, the recycling place won't take plastic bags, because they aren't able to recycle them for some reason. I've found a site that taught me how to make plastic shopping bags into really good reusable ones, so I want to start making them. Basically I want to get a good statement that I can tell people about why re-usable is better.

Answer:

i've enviromental illness and i know from my own experience from where i live. they are trying to replace the plastic with paper or boxes. back in the day i only used paper bags for lunch. i've had reactions to certain corner store bags I HAVE asked them to smell their bags' i cannot handle or be in contact with plastics because of fumes that the bags give off i have had attacks from the odor! places that use alot of bags are the food banks and some are not good for the enviroment but how long will it take to ban them not in my generation or the next one do you think? also do you have to pay for your grocery bags or boxes?
I hate to burst your bubble, but recycling: Glass,Plastic,Paper is a waste. Things you should recycle: Electronics, Aluminum, Steel etc.
Plastic bags are non-biodegradable things means they don't mix with the soil . Where as cloth or jute bags are biodegradable means after use if you throw them , they automatically mix with soil after few days . Plastic bags some times chockes the sewage lines creating unhealthy cluster of sewage water which is the breeding places of many germs bacteria . They may out break any type of epidemics of diseases . Even the raper or cover of biscuits , or other things should be thrown here there . They should be put in garbage can , so that in garbage treatment plants , they can be separated for burning or recycling .
Cloth, jute, and well made paper bags can be promoted. And they're durable and re-usable too. If everyone practices not to use polythene or plastic bags, the manufacture of plastic bags will reduce and it will have a very positive effect on our environment. So we must keep in mind, less consumption= reduced production. It may sound complicated, but trust me once you begin practicing it, you will find yourself a much environment friendly person. Plastics clog gutters, drains, etc, that spread diseases due to stagnation of dirt and water, vectors and mosquitoes breed it in. secondly, if you pollute the beach with plastics, marine or aquatic life could be drastically affected when they choke on these bags as it gets into the ocean or sea. It also doesnt decompose and hence it poses a major problem.
Plastic Bags are bad for a couple reasons: Plastic bags are made from petroleum, which has to be extracted from the earth. The environmental impact associated with that is enough to NOT use plastic bags. Plastic bags in landfills end up getting blown around and getting caught in trees and nearby streams. I've seen this for myself. It's pretty disgusting. Plastic bags are not durable and are not designed for more than a couple uses. By the way, you can actually find several places to take your plastic bags for recycle. Most grocery stores now have plastic bag recycling bins - Whole Foods, Sprouts, Frys (i.e. Kroger), etc. Make sure that you don't accept every free reusable bag that someone offers you as a promotional item. You really only need enough to bag all your groceries during one shopping trip. I keep 5-6. Anymore than that is wasteful.
