Question:

Why was it a bad idea to bail out the banks in 2008?

?

Answer:

There were a few things I would have done differently, but I do not agree with you that is was a bad idea.
Because nobody was held accountable for years of predatorial loan making, fraudulent securities deals, slush funds, incompetence and theft.
They got in trouble through bad business practices and continue to do the same
I think the right way to do it would have been to pay off the toxic mortgages that were making them go bankrupt, then the home owners as well as the banks would have been relieved and the housing market and construction industry would not be anywhere near as messed up as they are now. Still messed up, to be sure, but nowhere near as bad as they are now. Note, 2008 Bush was in power, the bank bail out was his scene, though dishonest or ignorant conservative people try to blame it on Obama, who was not in power then.
