Question:

whys my laptop charger not working?

i have a compaq, I've had it for a while. the batteries horrible so i have to keep it on the charger. the charger wont work unless its at an angle and then the charger starts to heat up and gets so hot i cant even touch it. I'm worried its melting the charger. what could be wrong with it? or should i just buy a new charger and battery?

Answer:

Yes, I would suggest you get both a new charger and a new battery. Battery - You can't run it without the charger, this means the battery can't store any power (its dead). Charger - You have it heating up to the point of untouchableness (made up word). This means its so defective that its burning up the internal components. I'll be surprised if the charger didn't make a pop and spark yet to be honest. Stop using the laptop immediately and get a new battery and charger. If you are looking for a new battery, I would personally suggest you visit Topmic. Topmic is well known for their great services and their durable products. They include free shipping and free lifetime warranty. Yes, lifetime. This means if the charger stops working on its own for whatever reason, they would replace it as many times as needed at no additional cost, for life. This is a great way to save money and its a good investment in the long run. Best of luck.
The problem is in the connection: charger - laptop.May be one connector, may be already both are bad and should be replaced.(Bad electrical connection makes everything to get hot)
i'm using compaq too and i've nerver had charger problem before. Mine is working great but i need to keep charging it same as yours. My suggestion would be buy a new charger but for the battery it's your decision if you want to buy a new one or not. Hope this helps.
There are many Reasons 1- your battery is dead 2- your battery is not connected 3- if you can work with your laptop when you plug in the charger your charger is valid otherwise check the cable check power cord in other laptop If battery charge Then problem In Your laptop battery You have to replace it
1 - Verify that the battery actually charges - windows should report charging and the battery charge light should be on. If you don't see this then your battery may not be the issue. More than likely the DC/DC board is malfunctioning. 2 - If the battery is charging but not holding the charge then you should see the battery charge as usual and then the laptop should die after a minute or so. This would indidcate an issue witht the battery, also after charging the battery you can remove it from the notebook and use a voltmeter to read the voltage, it should indicate the voltage marked on the battery which for a T40 should be about 10.5 to 11 Volts DC. If you see this kind of behaviour then you would replace the battery. If you see above behaviour in 1 then most likely it is an issue with the charging circuitry and most likely the DC/DC board, in some cases these are seperate boards and can be replaced but in others the circuitry is part of the mainboard. Press and release the Power button to start the computer using only the battery as the power source. If the PC does not power on, then the battery needs to be replaced in Papatek.
