Question:

Will an upgraded exhaust system make my 1997 4-speed Automatic Plymouth Breeze any faster/give it more torque?

I was driving it today and to go from 30-55mph, I had to nearly floor it. It is a 2.0L engine that I bought today (February 19th, 2008). Otherwise the car is in pretty solid condition. Also, the gas pedal is really loose, and I barely press it and I‘m moving. Basically, I just want to have to push a little harder on the throttle to start moving, and not have it on the floor to drive at highway speeds. Thanks

Answer:

Check on that engine; it should be 2.4L. The performance limiter in that car is the automatic transmission, not the exhaust. A more open exhaust will have only a placebo effect. You might consider an underdrive pulley.
No.an exhaust won't help. it's a 2.0 !!!!! My Harley has a 2.4 !!! and it has 2 wheels. It's a 2.0You have to punch it to get to highway speedsoon after that it should even out.that's the way they were made. Fuel economyyeah right!
Most stock engines that have been well maintained will run quite well enough without a lot of performance parts added, I wouldn't recommend high flow exhaust for that car unless you just love the pissed off weed eater on steroids sound. it won't give you any more power. I'd be looking at maintenance things like air / fuel filters, clogged fuel injectors, worn spark plugs etc
