Question:

Will cold air intake make my car significantly faster?

I drive a 2008 ford mustang v6 while it‘s quite fast already, im looking to make it faster. I ran a 0-60 on my car and i got about 6.4 seconds. How much time will a quality cold air intake shave off? Will the intake make my car louder? The mustang is honestly loud enough.

Answer:

1. The car is not quite fast. It's just faster than what you've driven previously. Go drive a V8 Mustang, and see if you're saying the same thing. 2. A quality cold air intake won't shave any time what so ever off your 6.4 0-60. Here's why: First, you HAVE a cold air intake. Go pop your hood, and look. The intake leads away from the hot air of the engine, towards the bumper, to get cold air. That is the definition of a cold air intake. An aftermarket one simply replaces that, and provides the SLIGHTEST increase in air flow. But it's nothing you don't have already. At best, maybe 3 horsepower gained, in your higher RPM. And most often, you lose some torque in the low end, because you're simply shifting power. Since you need torque to move, your car may actually be SLOWER than 6.4 afterwards. Maybe 6.5. But 3 horsepower is not enough to make any noticeable increase. But the words cold air intake and significantly faster have absolutely no business being in the same sentence. And no, it shouldn't make the car louder, unless you install it improperly. Total waste of money 99% of the time, unless your intake is clogged and needs to be replaced.
Either the toe is set too far in, or it's driven agressively through corners, especially if a front drive car.
Too much positive camber. Toe in or bent steering components. Alignment chart will show what degree of each has and if more than 1 degree of SAI. (STEERING AXIS INCLINATION) then something is bent and should not be aligned til fixed. Most cases are bent strut or steering arm if have one
CAI alone is not enough to make a difference. If you have more air going in, then you need more air to go out. If you install a CAI and don't do anything to the exhaust you are wasting your money. To feel horsepower gain you need everything in the motor to work in harmony.
