The steam causes the smoke detector to go off there are a couple of ways to handle this problem. You can open a window to allow the steam to escape or install an exhaust fan and leave it on while you shower
If you have an ice storm, stay off the road, that's common sense. You don't have to worry about your driving as much as the other people on the road, people are really dangerous when the weather is bad.
