Question:

will using a fan on wet cloths cool down my home?

im going to move out soon and the place i have chosen to move into does not provide personal washers/dryers for the apartments, so i will have to use a laundry mat. if i choose to skip using dryers to dry my cloths and, instead, hang them on a folding clothes rack while blowing a fan over them, will this also help cool down my home? figured I‘d try killing two birds with one stone, you know? also, i‘ve heard the laundry mats can contaminate your clothing with whatever nasty stuff was previously used in the washers. im not so sure about this, since im using soap and all, but has anyone heard of this?

Answer:

No. It will technically heat your home because the fan gives off heat. Also, it will increase the humidity in your home which will decrease the comfort level.
If you dry your clothes inside you will increasing the humidity in your house. Increasing humidity will increase mould in your house, not a good thing. Dry your clothes outside on a drying rack.
If you wash your clothes at the LAUNDROMAT (not laundry mat), you can bring them home and hang them on a clothes dryer. Shirts and blouses can be put on plastic hangers and hung from the shower rail. Your clothes won't be sopping wet if they are washed in an automatic washing machine, so you're not likely to get mold in your house. I wash my stuff in a standard machine, but I never put polyester or cotton tops or blouses in a dryer. They are always hung to dry then ironed so they're neat. Don't bother with the fan - it won't help that much.
