Question:

Worth buying 94 camaro and replacing water pump?

I could get a 1994 Camaro, v6, no rust, automatic, excellent condition for $1200. THe ony thing is that it needs a water pump. Is it worth the buy? How much other damage could have been done with the water pump damaged? and how hard is it to replace the water pump?

Answer:

buy it it is an easy waterpump to change
Tell them you'll give him a thousand and buy it. Check the coolant bottle and look for sludge. Check oil for milkshake looking oil. These motors are known for bad intake and head gaskets and that is not as easy as a water pump.
if its in good shape like you say have a mechanic look at it and if he gives you a good report on it buy it . you could also ask him what he would charge to put the water pump in as far as damage go's as long as the owner did not drive it with the bad water pump it should be ok. driving it like that can cause warped head's and blow the motor have it looked at before you buy it.
Fairly simple to swap out the pump, my questing is why did it go bad? How long was it driven without water cerculating in the block? Are the heads warped from overheating? I guess if you wanna take a chance and it goes good, you made out. Myself I dont think Camaros, Mustangs or any other sportscar should have a 6 cylinder. If your going to revamp the looks and style of it thats fine, but dont take away the V8
I am fairly SURE that car is going to have the 3.4L V-6 in it. The seller may be telling you that it needs a water pump, but it is FAR FAR more likely that it has a blown head gasket($$$). It it didn't start overheating because of that, it is the current reality if it has been overheated. Those engines are INFAMOUS for blowing head gaskets do to the cylinder heads on them. I would have him put the water pump on it. If the car then runs fine, give him the additional cost for the pump.
