Question:

Would an antique white bathroom vanity clash with white crown molding?

I am about to redo my bathroom and my boyfriend wants to put in an antique white vanity, I think that the antique white (because it is more of a cream distressed look) would clash with white crown molding . . . . any thoughts???Should I just stick with a clean white bathroom vanity?

Answer:

don't be afraid to do different things....one thought for you is this...... after you put your crownmolding up, always remember to caulk the top of the moldind as well as the bottom of it and where the corners meet. afterwords, take the same cream color paint and paint the crown molding....doesn't have to be perfect o-k.....then go to your local paint store or even walmart and purchace a quart of 'CRACKLE GLAZE', AFTER THE CREAM COLOR HAS DRIED BRUSH THAT ON......BE SURE TO LET IT DRY ALSO........ then take a white color after the glaze has dried and brush a coat of white on........as the white dries it will begin to crack and you will be able to see aged lines of the cream underneath....great accent for crownmold....how do I know you ask.......I have it in my bathroom.......have fun and enjoy!
you could pick up the white in the vanity and sponge it onto the white white crown molding but then again white doesn't clash with white...but I think it would look stupid to have two shades of white in a small room like a bathroom...it would make it look tacky ! You have to blend the two shades
Stick with the antique white vanity. It will be pretty to have in there. One trick to make the moulding match is to antiquitize it. You can get some natural stain for wood, a natural color of course, and dab a rag into this and then wipe it onto the crown moulding. Don't let it sit too long, but wipe it off. You want most of it to stay in the seams, so don't be thorough about the wiping off part. It'll make the crowin moulding appear more aged. It's really pretty. You can even do this to your walls to make them match as well. Have fun!
why not go with an eggsheell or an off white to match the vanity with the crown moulding, leave the rest of the room a regular white and the eggshell or antique white of the crown moulding would be quite a contrast to the room not looking like a white box, also it would accent the antique vanity bringing the room together instead of making it ( the vanity) stand out and look out of place. Good luck Bill
Buy the antique white vanity and install it. Then sit on the toilet and smoke cigarettes every day. Your crown molding will be matching your vanity in no time.
