No, you were not fired illegally. First of all, the entire concept of being unlawfully fired is mostly a myth. The few cases where it is possible to sue for wrongful termination do not apply to this. You assaulted a customer, plain and simple. The company was perfectly within their rights to fire you. The employer itself was not engaging in racist behavior, and they didn't violate an employment contract because (as a restaurant employee) I am certain no contract exists. So no, you cannot sue your former employer. If this customer was causing you problems you should have ignored it and reported him to the manager who could have handled the situation without assaulting and screaming at the customer.
