Question:

Why do rally cars have such thin tires.?

Wouldnt such a thin tire prove inefficient in a rally race? It appears they use close to 205 size width tires.

Answer:

Thin tires, makes the car go faster. They help to reduce friction with the road's surface. The same theory is applied to racer bikes.
Thin Tyres are actually their aspect ratio, in technical terms. They have a very low profile Tyre-wall,i.e., their side height. That gives them enough Cornering and handling to support the in-built Electronic PowerSteering. In a nutshell, Low Profile Better rigidity of tyre, resulting in better handling! But these tyres offer low comfort levels, that's why they are not used in general all-purpose cars. But Rally cars have tuned-suspensions, which make these tyres feasible to use in performance standards.
