Question:

zip lock bag? plastic container? aluminum foil?

mmk well I am doing my science project by making 3 cheese sandwiches and wrapping one in a zip-lock bag, 1 in tinfoil, and 1 in a plastic container then putting them all in a fridge and seeing which one lasts the longest as in stays fresh the longest judging by mold growthThe purpose is to see which food wrap works bestAny where I could get information to help me with my hypothesis, and just any background information? And plus how does the zip lock bag keep food fesh, how does aluminum foil keep food fresh, and how do plastic containers keep food fresh?

Answer:

All three work by keeping air away from the foodFoods go bad when air is available to bacteria and fungi that are in air, such as mold spores, and also by not allowing existing bacteria or fungi sufficient amounts of oxygen, or carbon dioxide in some cases Aluminum foil, being a metal, can be form fit to whatever you're wrapping with it, however it can be difficult to get a good seal, and it tears fairly easily Ziploc bags seal well and most air can be squeezed out of the bag without crushing the food Plastic containers have a finite volume, and more air will be in the container unless the food is sized to the container, but plastic containers do provide a good tight seal, and protection from crushing.
