Dont cut the wiring to fit a new stereo...! Halfords do wiring harnesses changing one type to another. (?20) If its already cut, use a car electrician to be safe.
Put a V8 in that bad boy! J/K sorry. Sounds like maybe an ignition coil, plug wire loose or bad or possibly an injector like the last guy said.
