81 Cutlass Supreme Car Alarm system HELP?
its easy to start ona small 250 or 500cc but after you learn youll just want to jump up. i started on a sportster and i think they hadle good and ROCK! HARLEY-DAVIDSON all the way!
I don't *think* a remote start will work, based on my very limited knowledge of remote start systems. I do, however, understand how the carb systems on those cars work. Since the pedal needs to be pumped to set the choke (and fast idle cam) unless the remote start can manipulate the throttle (which would seem pretty dangerous) then IF it would start, you'd probably have it dying multiple times. Barring a remote start system, please don't waste your time on an alarm that butchers the wiring of the car. These cars can be stolen with a hammer (seriously, they break the steering column on the drivers side, just below the steering wheel, check a wrecking yard for any GM this vintage since all the columns are the same design) so what you really need to do is protect the steering column. They make steel collars for these columns that prevent thieves from doing this. What happens is that the thief sees your stereo, or hears your loud music, and simply steals the whole car, strips the stereo, and dumps the car somewhere. Car alarms on vehicles that old are easy to defeat (wiring is so simple on the cars that age) so an alarm isn't an effective deterrent. Whne they can see that the column can't be broken, they may not even touch the car since they know they can't drive it off. My thinking is that the best course of action is to not have a good deck visible at all, and keep the music volume down low enough so that people don't notice. These cars are like taking candy from a baby for even the most novice thief.
