I am going to replace the EGR valve on my 99 Pontiac GP with the 3.8. It needs replacing(has already been cleaned twice) and keeps popping the code for it. Anyways..my question is: after its replaced what do I need to do to reset the codes or computer? Someone told me to unhook the battery for a hour and that will do it???? Is this true? Any help out there?? THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a great type of the time its not the EGR Valve, this something else. Do you no what code or codes have been discovered ? i've got seen the O-ring lacking on the percentvalve alot and this journeys a EGR code, verify the percentValve for the O-jewelry or while the engines ruining open the oil cap and verify to verify if theres a great vacuum there. if so the O-ring is lacking.
ok first are you sure the egr valve is really bad the ports in the intake could be carboned up so the valve cant work I only say this because you say the egr valve has been cleaned twice well if the port in the valve was restricted then the ports to the valve are going to be restricted take the valve off and run a piece of wire thru all the ports and take some carb clean wash it out really good let the cleaner evaporate before you start the car put your egr back on and retesting as far as the codes go you may need to have the codes cleared some of these have a KAM keep alive memory disconnecting the battery may turn the light out but not clear the code good luck
All you need to do is unhook the positive cable and the negative cable from the battery and touch them together for 10 seconds this will reset the computer. (cant get shocked). thanks please add me to your contacts so i know if it helped.
Make sure you have the radio unlock code before disconnecting the battery or you'll have to get it for the radio to work again if it locks up from disconnecting the battery. Most times, you can just pull the ECM fuse instead of disconnecting the battery. Or take it to Autozone and they can reset it for you. Call first to find out.
yes that is true u can unhook the battery overnight or even 30 mins depending on manufacturer. or you can pop the fuse for the ecu/pcu or you can buy a code scanner and delete it. Best solution is to unhook the negative (-) terminal of the battery overnight. Hope this helps.
