1999 Chevrolet Silverado LS 5.3 vortex V8. Idle fluctuates. Changes egr valve, pcv valve mass air flow sensor and I cleaned the throttle body and the idle air control valve. I put liquid copper bars leak for my intake gasket. My codes are p0300, p0440 and p0507. When the guy at oreilys scanded mycoses the catilitic converter showed up as a possible cause. If I pour lacque thinner into my tank and then run it for a bit, will it clean my cat? It rattles in the cold. Also can a plugged cat affect gas mileage or how my engine runs? Can a clogged cat cause a misfire?
A clogged catalytic converter can cause all of these codes, but in serious cases. You could try replacing the cat (some people straight pipe, or bypass the cat), and see if that helps. Your codes are as follows: P0300-Random Cylinder Misfire. P0449- Evaporative Emission Vent Valve Solenoid Malfunction. P0507- Idle Speed High. Additives are an option, but sometimes can cause an adverse reaction. Hope this information helps, and good luck!
1) Wash your hands 2) Wear tight fit gloves 3) Wash all apparatus with appropriate liquids before and after experiments
depends on which type of lab you're in.chemistry, biology, genetics, molecular?? generally speaking.don't leave breakable things lying around, dispose of broken glass in proper receptacle, always wear gloves, keep environment sterile, know what chemicals you're using and how to clean them up if you spill them, know where safety equipment (fire blanket, eye wash, shower, fire extinguisher) is at all timesetc
That does not point at a bad converter at all. In fact, the codes many mechanics mistake for indicating a bad converter (P0420/1 and P0430/1) have almost nothing to do with the catalytic converter. They are produced by the ECU when the downstream O2 sensor reports high and fluctuating oxygen in the exhaust leaving the converter, where the level should be low. So, what ties all that together is lean condition at idle, particularly from a vacuum leak. (Well all but maybe the P0449, complaining about the vent valve.) I would put my priorities as (1) finding/fixing any vacuum leak; (2) checking into the vent valve and solenoid. I wouldn't even think about the catalytic converter. I can't imagine how a bad cat would cause a high idle.
