Back brake first , gently as in a car. Apply front brake as needed in addition to back brake as it has most stopping power.
If your locks up a brakes, front or back, you simply release and then reapply, with a little less pressure. Locking up is not the end of your days ride if you react right.
Depending on the bike I'm riding it's different. If I'm riding my Sports Bike and say I'm running 60mph and the light turns red I put a little force on the back break and a little more on the front depending on the distance. If I'm on my harley I just use my back break.
