Question:

Ac motor replacement ?

My cooler worked and it stopped. It turns a little, stops and then struggles to turn. I tried oiling it, wd40 and I cleaned it. I don't no what to do help.

Answer:

Replace the bearings. They are phosphor bronze bushing. Takes about 10 minutes per side to remove and replace. Cost about $5 per bushing.
Once an AC motor starts binding, it's probably time to replace it. If you can't, the first thing I would try is cleaning the bearings with some electrical or brake part cleaner. Something that will not leave any residue. After that, I might use a dry lubricant, such as graphite or silicon, but I wouldn't use oil. AC motors usually use bushings, rather than roller-type bearings, and oil collects dust and dirt, which acts like glue when it gets into bushings. Dry lubricants tend to cause less of a problem in this area. @MM: Where are you getting your information, I wonder?
If you can spin the fan motor blower and it spins freely. I suspect that the start capacitor had failed. It the silver thing on the side of the blower housing with the two wires in it. You have to take it out and get the numbers off the side of it. MFD rating and Volts. Take it to any place that sells electric stuff. Not lowes. Or order one online. Its a cheap part. And it not rocket science to change out. Make sure power is off when working ; Its does not matter what wire goes on what terminal on the new capacitor. That where I would start. You have to remove the furnace cover to gain access to the part.
