Everything in the furnace and AC runs but no air blows. I've been told the motor needs replaced and will cost $2300! They never checked the outside unit at all.
If there is no airflow, the coils will frost up even with proper freon charge. If your air filter is clogged, no air flows and the fan motor can fail. Get the estimate in writing to see why it is so high.
Could be that your low on refrigerant that's why its freezing or your txv or metering device is clogged or stuck making it so there is not enough refrigerant going through but that would only freeze on the bottom of your A coil .. you could also check your run capacitor if your hear it start your start cap is working but now they make them build in the motor them self and you have to replace your motor... really hard to tell you whats wrong without testing the stuff myself
What do you mean runs? Change the filter, and take a look at the air handler. If the fan runs but the squirrel cage isn't grabbing air and pushing it,you may need to replace the fan capsule. The hub may have failed and is no longer mounted to the fan shaft. It also could have a fan capacitor problem. If the cap failed a certain way the fan will run backwards. If that is the case then yeah, you will not keel any air being pushed..
Yeah, probibly true. If the fan doesn't run then the indoor coil will freeze up. No reason to check the outdoor unit because you cant tell if the charge is proper while the coil is frozen. If the tech checked the fan and it doesn't run then it's the fan. The price however is very high. Some furnaces have variable speed motors in them that tend to be pricey, but even they aren't that pricey.
If the motor needs replaced that sounds a little steep. Can you tell if the blower is running? If the blower motor is bad there is really no need to check the outdoor until it is fixed. If it is not working then it either is bad or it's not getting power to it.
